[Closed] OSC 5 : Seong Il limited edition gaiwan sets

Message par David » 07 Août 2015, 09:49

This is a pre-order thread. Thanks for reading carefully all the details before committing to anything.

Seong Il is a korean potter living in Boseong, in south-east Korea, where most of the korean tea is grown. He chose to leave there, away from the main ceramics center (Icheon), for the quality of life that he and his family have there.

Seong Il and his wife, Hye Jin, studied pottery at university. She creates tableware and "coffeeware" while Seong Il focuses on tea. They live a simple life with their two daughters in a house designed and built by Seong Il. The studio and the tea room are beneath the house, while the gas kiln is outside. Through the studio windows, they can see nature, valley, the tea fields...

Seong Il's work is contemporary, simple yet soulful. He likes to experiment with many kinds of clays and natural ashes.

Here's a video sourced from Tea Urchin which shows the potter at work. This presentation is greatly inspired by the Tea Urchin blog. Thanks to Eugene for all the information.

We introduced ourselves to Seong Il a few weeks ago. He showed a lot of enthusiasm to try and make something fun with us. We asked him to create a gaiwan, cheaper than a teapot, with a complete wild card as for the style he wants to use.

And not only he did create a beautiful gaiwan for us, but he made a full set (each piece can be bought independently). The body is pure porcelain with a shino glaze (oak ashes).

The following pictures are showing a test set. Each piece is going to be unique with light variations. Please understand that it won't be possible to choose exactly one item according to the photo. The definitive sets are not created yet.

The price depend on the number of piece we order. This is a pre-order post, but we can only give average prices for now. Transaction will be made directly in korean money.

Here are the estimated prices. Before that, a few important points to bear in mind :

1/ to be able to participate, you need to become a member of our Association, that means to pay the 6€ cotisation fee which will make you a member till 2015, December the 1st. You will then be able to take part in any Special Operation (OS).

2/ prices listed below are the prices of the teaware only. they do not include various fees such as shipment from Korea, shipment to you, wrapping equipment, maybe customs fees. please bear that in mind.

The prices change after we reach 15 participants.
